Tonight I was saying goodnight prayers with Nate and the coolest conversation happened. Once we've prayed for all our Grandma's and Grandpa's and aunts and uncles, etc. we usually ask him if there is anything he wants to say to Jesus. He usually rambles on about thanking Him for his cars and his movies but tonight this is what happened: ME: Is there anything you want to say to Jesus NATE: He died on the cross ME: Yes, do you know who He died on the cross for? NATE: Nate. ME: Do you know why He died on the cross? NATE: He took my sin. ME: Right Nate. Do you know what sins are? NATE: (stared at me blankly) ME: Sins are when you do bad things. Like saying NO to mommy and daddy and not listening and hitting people. Anytime you do something that God said not to do. NATE: Oh. OK. (pause) Sorry Jesus died on the cross. ME: No, don't say sorry to Jesus for dying on the cross. You say sorry for your sin and thank you for dying on the cross. NATE: OK. Thank you Jesus for died on the cross. ME: Anything else you want to say to Jesus?? NATE: Thank you for my wall. Thank you for my closet....etc. Now I don't know if he was just saying phrases that he's heard or if he really knew what he was saying. But that sure seems like a prayer for salvation to me. Is it possible for a child who is almost 3???? If it is...PRAISE THE LORD!!!!! If not, I'm just happy that we are able to share the Good News with him at this age and maybe he'll understand soon. |
